Paper Research

Cut Rice Paper Sculptures of Twisting Rollercoasters by Bovey Lee

In this assignment, I researched other artists using papercrafts as a medium. I used the Bovey Lee article to review this topic.

Bovey Lee is an artist travelling across the United States of America, from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles. During his travels, she would experience an overwhelming variety of experiences from these two cities.

To show his experiences between the two cities, Bovey began working on a new art project by cutting through rice paper. Cutting by hand, she featured landscapes from her past and contemporary self as if they were a spiralling cycle of rollercoasters. According to the artist, she spoke that "the works also feature imagery associated with romantic relationships, and wedding bouquets, engagement rings, cakes, and eternity symbols populate the pieces."

My interpretation of this piece of art is that it represents the journey of one's life to seek balance through the everchanging chaos of life.

Why?

- I picked this artist's work on rice paper because I liked how it relates to my life in some way. The overcharging chaos represented by life kept me stressed or overworked sometimes when I sought ways to get a break or relax from all the chaos.
